Dona Pilar Carrion, 86, of Lorain, died Thursday morning, Sept. 16, 1993 in Oakhills Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. She was born in Barrio Quebrada Honda, San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, moving to Lorain in 1951 with her husband and their 14 children.
Dona Pilar, with her late husband Don Hermogenes, was a founder of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, which serves mostly the Hispanic-American community. She was active in variouschurch organizations, particularly the Sociedad de Damas and the Sociedad del Altar y del Rosario. She was a life member of La Legion de Maria. Dona Pilar enjoyed taking care ofher church garden.
Survivors include sons Domingo of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Luis of Orlando, Fla, Ignacio of San Lorenzo of Puerto Rico, Felix, Genaro and Felipe, all of Lorain; daughters Ernesta Contreras, Felisa Solis, Paulita Ergh and Maria Berrios, all of Lorain, Selsa Torres of Lares, Puerto Rico, Isabel Van deVenter of Saline, Mich, Regina Medina of Fort Lauderdale and Sister Joaquina Carrion, M.S.B.T. of Cleveland; brother, Otilio Torres of Caguas,Puerto Rico and Aurelia Munoz of Lorain; 60 grandchildren and 74 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Inocencia Rodriguez and Ernestina Rogers.
Friends may call from 3 to 9pm Friday in the John J. Gluvna Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Service will be at 8:15am Saturday in the funeral chapel, followed by a 9am Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel. The Rev. Rob Reidy, pastor, and Deacon Rev. Don Prudo Vicens will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
