Robert Perez Jr., 24, trooper at Milan Post
-LORAIN - Trooper Robert Perez Jr., 24, of Lorain, died Monday, May 15, 2000. at clevalnd MetroHealth Medical Center from injuries received in an accident on the Ohio Turnpike while on duty.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1975, in Lorain, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a 1994 graduate of Admiral King High School where he played football and was involved with the Ohio Work Education porgram, which allowed him to volunteer in municpal court. In 1994, he joined the Vermilllion Police Explorers Post 425, where he volunteered in law enforcement.
He served with the Army National Guard in Akron from January 1996-September 1997. In 1998, he was a corrections officer with the Lorain Police Department and in 1999, was a graduate of Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy in Columbus. After graduation he began working for Ohio State Highway Patrol Post 72 on April 4, 1999, and in March 2000 was transferred to Milan Post 90 on the Ohio Turnpike. He also was a security guard for Midway Mall, Elyria, and Cedar Point, Sandusky.
He was a member of House of Praise International Church, Lorain; Ohio Troopers Coalition; Ohio State Troopers Association; Troopers for Safer Ohio; and Ohio Troopers for Caring. He enjoyed jogging, and playing baseball, softball and basketball.
He is survived by his mother, Anita Carrion of Lorain; his father, Robert Perez Sr. of Columbus; one brother, Anthony Perez of Columbus; one sister, Amanda Perez of Lorain; maternal grandparents, Domingo Carrion of San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, and Martha Carrion of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and paternal grandparents, Maximino Perez and Carmen Perez of San Lorenzo.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9pm today at House of Praise International Church, 4321 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Services will be 11am Thursday at Church on the North Coast, 4125 Leavitt Road, Lorain, with the Rev. Gilbert Silva officiating.
Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Dovin Funeral Home, Lorain, is in charge of the arrangements.
